what the heck is this website?

I’ve chronicled most my life on the internet. I’ve talked about my favorite times with glee, and some really dark stuff trying to help others. But most the time, I write a stream of conscious thought. App State? Sure. Pro wrestling? Yep. Sumo? Sometimes at 4 a.m. when it’s on. TV shows? Why not. Power Rangers? Hell yeah! Random places I visited? You bet!

pipedreams is a new chapter that’ll encompass all of that. And yes, it’s pipedreams. No capital letters, one word. Why? I’m a slave to the times and that seems cool in the year 2025 A.D.

In my Wilmington, N.C., high school, we had to do a Senior Project for half the school year. Basically, pick a topic, spend a lot of time doing it, get it confirmed by a teacher, talk to some experts and make a presentation at the end about what you learned.

My topic, in 2005, was the internet. My work was blogging. I interviewed IT people. My power point presentation started with a GIF of a man in cubicle hell smashing his computer. It got laughs! I got an A on my Senior Project, which accounted for a large percentage of my grade.

I blogged about my life. I even included some fantasy writing, which I’m glad is likely never to be found.

That was 20 years ago. Writing on the internet has taken a lot of forms since then. Xanga. Early Facebook. Twitter/X, BlueSky, various blogs and websites, then professional, which I still do to this day.

pipedreams, in some ways, is a throwback to that Senior Project. If you know me from social media, this will be me in longform.

The main character here will be Appalachian State University. Football is the front porch and front yard of the university. For the most part, it’s a darn good-looking yard. That yard is looking rough recently and there’s a new landscaper in charge. His name is Dowell and he’s very short.

I like other App State sports as well and will have thought on them as well. Basketball is in full swing right now and so I might have to look up advanced statistics and other things that annoying Big East bloggers regularly do.

The other main character here will be pro wrestling, which is one of my happy childhood homes. I’m currently an AEW fan who dabbles in WWE and has an extensive knowledge of pro wrestling going back decades. Not enough to be the most knowledgeable or even close, but more than you, dear reader.

I said sumo in that opening paragraph, right? Yeah, I’m into sumo. It’s live for 15 days straight every other month from 4-6 a.m. Eastern Time, so my enjoyment comes through highlight videos. As of writing, we’re in the middle of the final week of the January basho.

There will be some Life News here and there, when appropriate to share. This is not foreshadowing anything. Why would I start a whole new website and then make a big life change that could disrupt this? You’d have to be crazy to do that.

This is not a media outlet, at least not now. It’s a blog. It’s something I’ve wanted to do for a long time and finally pulled the trigger on.

There is no schedule. Maybe one day once I get into a groove.

I’m not taking requests. I got a dozen ideas in my head that’ll take a long time to weed through.
