This is the eighth part of the feedback regarding all 14 Sun Belt teams in 2025. These were anonymous thoughts from random fans of the Sun Belt, so you get a good mix of opinions.

As determined by random dot org, the eighth team is the Golden Eagles of Southern Miss.

Some answers were edited out due to low effort trolling or replying “none.”

What are your thoughts on Southern Miss Football going into the 2025 season?

• New coach, lots of new transfers from a team that just won the conference. Might make a bowl
• Much like Marshall, team chemistry will be the question.  New coach however will not have new head coach challenges with 4 years under his belt. Tossing a dart, will finish top half of the conference.  If team comes together quickly possibly be a contender.
• Nowhere to go but up. Huff and his Marshall players will improve things immediately but I’m not convinced he’s the guy to get them to the upper levels of the conference.
• Southern Miss? You mean Marshall 2024? Braxton has star potential and could explode into a national name. Should be much improved, but still a year away. Foundation building year.
• Might surprise some
• Dangerous
• Better than last year.
• The Marshall transfers will make them better, but still missing some pieces to be at the top of the west.
• Should have bought a better coach.
• Hard to say if Huff can bring his magic here
• Strong fan base! Need them to be good in football again! They’ll go to a bowl game

• I’m not worried about the west.
• Huff will struggle getting the team to unify in his first season there
• I hope that the surprise I referred to above is that will under perform the hopes and dreams of the USM faithful.  Don’t get me wrong, I think the Huff thing will work out for them in the end, but let the tires deflate in year one so karmic influences can be satisfied.
• Large transfer class, but I don’t see it as enough for a total turnaround in 2025 for a team that won 0 FBS games in 2024.
• They seem likely to take a step forward this season. It shouldn’t be hard to improve over a 1-11 record.
• Charles Huff won the SBCG with Marshall, then left for USM and took basically his whole team with him. Most promising Southern Miss squad since 2015.
• Possibly a dark horse for the west, or could the bottom feeder for yet another year.
• Can’t be as bad as last year, can they?
• 4-6
• I don’t think they’re near as good as some people expect even bringing a good bit from Marshall.
• Marshall 2.0. Will be better for southern miss, maybe bowl game but not conference champ
• Stealing eggs out of the hen house
• Lower tier.
• Dont expect much. Huff will fail.
• USM are still weak and will struggle to  go 6-6.
• People forget that they paid off the Sun Belt refs in 2015 against Texas State when they weren’t even part of the conference yet this is why we’re leaving btw don’t look it up just accept that it’s canon
• Depth and talent-wise, they seem absolutely loaded.  Getting Braylon Braxton is going to be a huge boost.
• They are….Marshall!
• Truest wildcard EVER
• Much better but won’t  finish in top 4 of the West
• Good coach. Strong team.
• Huff…will the off season drama and per-season hype live up to expectations?  Most likely not but they will take a significant step up from last year.  Like other teams that have a lot of transfers it may take a game or two to see how well they gel.  Getting so many pieces from last year’s SBC champs will help that a lot I’m sure.  I expect a 6 or 7 win season this year +/- a win or so.
• Glad they have a coach that can bring them back from being so bad.
• Waiting to see how long the honeymoon lasts…
• This team is a wild card.  I think they win more games this year, but that really isn’t saying anything.  I think they battle Arkansas State for 5th in the West.
• Huge improvement over the last few years, however still around 4th in the SBC west.  Finish around 5-6 to 7-5 on the season. 
• Huff magic.
• They’ll get a lot better but not enough to win the west.
• Won’t be as good at Marshall last year or as bad as USM last year
