2025 anonymous sun belt football fan poll part two: georgia southern

This is the second part of the feedback regarding all 14 Sun Belt teams in 2025. These were anonymous thoughts from random fans of the Sun Belt, so you get a good mix of opinions.

As determined by random dot org, the second team is the Eagles of Georgia Southern.

Some answers were edited out due to low effort trolling or replying “none.”

What are your thoughts on Georgia Southern Football going into the 2025 season?

  • Will be a tough out in every conference game
  • At least the uniforms are consistent.
  • Stronger than expected
  • Dangerous
  • Returning a ton of production and filled any gaps in the portal. On paper, it’s tough to imagine them not being at least where they were last year.
  • I think they’ll be in contention.
  • decent…just not championship caliber
  • Good team but will be in the bottom 1/3 of the East.
  • Helton has built the Eagles the right way.  Taking key transfers as needed and recruiting to fit his system.  It’s now his fourth year and we all expect a lot from this team.  The Eagles have all of the pieces in place to win the Sun Belt but they have to get over a couple of hurdles.  They need to be more consistent week to week and get off to early starts in games.  Limiting the turn overs will be key on the offense that otherwise looks stacked.  Defense needs a better pass rush and the Safety group is a bit of a question but still overall they look to have a lot of talent returning.  The Eagles did have some coaching turn over so that is one area of concern going into 2025.
  • Middle of the pack.
  • This group is pretty loaded. Should challenge for the East.
  • They will have a football team.
  • Power run game as usual.
  • I think in a crowded SBC East they stand out as the favorite. Could see them winning it all this season.
  • Second best Eagles in SBC
  • Should be good but will lose games they shouldn’t.
  • Wildcard
  • They are rough and tough.
  • Choke artists, won’t be any different this year
  • GS and JMU game at the end of September will decide the East.
  • Strong. Well coached.
  • Time for Helton to take that next step – I think he will
  • Offense will be good, defense will struggle. 7 wins
  • I’m guessing 8-4 or 9-3 for the season.  Will give USC all they can handle.
  • I think they take a step back.  Clay Helton lucked up in beating Marshall and South Alabama.  How the Herd and Jags lost those games I’ll never know. We sometimes say a team is better than their record.  In the case of Georgia Southern last year, their record was better than their team and I think we see them drop off a bit this season.
  • Going to be better this year. the East will be decided opening week of conference play against JMU. Would have to beat USC and go undefeated to be a CFP contender.
  • It’s either them or JMU in the east. Helton took longer than I expected to build a consistent conference championship threat, but it was only a matter of time.
  • I’m waiting for Helton to have a breakout year.  If he can find a defense, they’ll be unstoppable.
  • Ho hum
  • Return a lot of production and will be good, but not good enough to win the east.
  • Not sure about them
  • Bowl Game
  • They will probably lose to Fresno in week 1, but I can still see them making it to the championship game.
  • We have some history with the Igles. Should be a close game when they come up for Senior Day.
  • If they minimize turnovers they win the East
  • Certainly they will continue to improve, and join in a three way fight for the East crown.  I just don’t think they can take Dow App State or JMU.  If they can, watch out.
  • Unfortunately likely wrap up the year toward bottom of the conference.
  • Meh, but probably above .500
  • Second to JMU in the east, a lot of returning experience
  • always tough
  • Underrated team
  • Will finish top 2 in the east
  • Going to GATA
